THE LEGEND
La Fiole du Pape is much more than just a bottle of wine: it is a work of art born of the visionary spirit of Charles Brotte. In 1952, this avant-garde wine merchant, with his passion for aesthetics and wine, had the bold idea of creating a bottle that would embody both the elegance and the terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It was not just a container, but an object that would make an impression, a creation capable of seducing the eye even before tasting.
To realise this vision, he teamed up with René Contier, a Provençal ceramist renowned for his talent. Inspired by the natural shapes of the vine stocks sculpted by the Mistral, the project took shape. During visits to museums in Provence, Charles was captivated by ancient bottles, with asymmetrical lines and full of character. One of them, particularly rare, became the muse of this unique project.
Contier transformed this inspiration into a plaster model, faithful to the initial idea, before entrusting it to master glassmakers who, thanks to their expertise, gave birth to La Fiole. Its unique curve evokes the hundred-year-old vines of Provence bent by the Mistral, creating a silhouette as elegant as it is daring.
Today, La Fiole du Pape, distributed in over 80 countries, is a symbol of refinement and innovation. It remains the fruit of Charles’ creativity and daring, perfectly combining wine-making tradition and art, and perpetuating the legend of Châteauneuf-du-Pape throughout the world.
